A standout feature of Dubrovnik is its impressive walls, which drew 1.1 million visitors in 2016. These walls stretch nearly 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) around the city, with a thickness of 4 to 6 meters (13–20 feet) on the landward side and much thinner on the seaward side.
Designed with a system of turrets and towers, the walls were built to protect the vulnerable city. They have also gained international fame as a filming location for the fictional city of King’s Landing in HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones.
